Ricky Ducas shares how being featured in Iba Yan helped his Anxiety and Depression support group!
For almost a year now, Iba Yan has told inspiring Bayanihan stories that touched viewers' hearts but apart from giving hope to others, they also shed light and open the viewers' minds on certain sensitive topics that hasn't been talked about more often than it should have.
Last February 21, 2021, Iba Yan shared the story of Ricky Ducas and the support group he started last 2019 called Anxiety and Depression support group.
Ricky was once a nurse in the ICU in a hospital in Taiwan. He achieved so much on his career but behind all those success are sleepless nights and tired mind.
He shared that one day, everything just hit him that he broke down and that experience together with the stories he's heard from students urged him to start his own support group that focuses on mental health. On that said episode, Iba Yan organized a webinar with experts and special guest speakers.
Months after Ricky's story was featured in Iba Yan, the team revisited him and check-up on what has changed since.
"Simula nung mapalabas ang kwento namin sa Iba YAn, nakaramdam kami ng sobrang laking pagbabago at narecognize kami hindi lang siguro sa Pilipinas, buong mundo kasi maraming tumutulong, nagpapahayag ng kanilang suporta, marami ding humihingi ng tulong."
Ricky also shared that after their story was featured in Iba Yan, they have been receiving messages from people who have watched the episode asking for help and sharing their stories.
They also started giving free psychiatric, neurologic consultation, and psychological assessment for qualified indigent clients. The team also received overwhelming support from the LGU, city health services, and an anonymous funder from UK with a really good heart who has been supporting their program.
Since they shared their story through Iba Yan, everything has changed for the better and this is exactly one of the show's purpose -- to open minds and inform people of things that are happening around us that haven't been talked about more often that it should have.
