“Sana makapagpa-picture uli ako sayo” Angel Locsin to Hidilyn Diaz!

Last Monday, an incredibly strong woman both literally and figuratively made history in the sports scene! Hidilyn Diaz, 30, wins Philippines’ first ever Olympic gold medal since 1924 at 2020 Tokyo Olympics!

When we talk about sports in the Philippines, the first thing that comes to mind is basketball and we oftentimes forgot that there are other sports out there but right after gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz won Philippines’ first ever Olympic gold medal, everyone now talks about an underrated sport, weightlifting.

Everyone is celebrating the victory of our new champ and people are sending her so much love and congratulatory messages. Angel Locsin who once had the chance to meet the athlete way back 2016 for ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID paid tribute to the gold medalist.

On her Instagram account, the actress shared a photo of them two holding Diaz’ silver medal from Rio Olympics in 2016 with the caption that reads

“BABAE

Sana makapagpa-picture uli ako sayo

Saludo @hidilyndiaz”

People on the comments’ section loved their photo specifically because they are both incredibly powerful and inspiring women. Some celebrities even reacted to her post like Ms. Karen Davila who left a comment and wrote “What a beautiful photo!!! Girl power!”

The country has been participating in Olympics for decades and now we finally have a gold medal courtesy of a strong woman’s strength, courage and perseverance. Her journey hasn’t been easy, she lost a few battles over the years but never gave up on her dream and it is all worth it!

Weightlifting is not a sport Filipinos normally talk about but with Hidilyn’s win, she introduced a sport that we should look forward to aside from basketball. With her perseverance and fighting spirit, this for sure will not be the last gold medal she’ll bring home!

Congratulations Hidilyn!
