Another vehicular accident in almost same stretch of Davao coastal road
DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 06 January) – Just about a minute-drive or 500 meters away from an earlier accident site last December 17, another vehicular mishap happened along the Davao City Coastal Road before dawn Monday, January 6, about three weeks apart.
Captain Hazel Caballero, Davao City Police Office (DCPO) spokesperson, told the media Monday afternoon that at 1:39 a.m., the vehicle driven by Arnel Padecio Morre, 31, a resident of Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur, was heading towards Bago Aplaya.
But he apparently lost control of the car that veered left into the opposite direction, and struck the base of a solar light post along the coastal road, she said.
The vehicle turned on its side due to the impact of the crash, which damaged a portion of the bridge’s side railings.
However, the driver abandoned the damaged car after the accident.
Caballero said the car was brought to the DCPO compound for safekeeping and further investigation.
She added that they have yet to locate Morre and that the police are filing reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property charges against him.
The car is owned by Monolithic Construction and Concrete Products, according to the police report.
“Identified naman ang driver ug ang tag-iya, dali ra na ma-locate (We already identified the driver and the owner of the car, they can be located easily),” Caballero said.
Monday’s pre-dawn accident happened 20 days after a driver accidentally lost control of his motorcycle apparently due to the “uneven surface” of the coastal road. The victim hit the railings, which caused his death.
To recall, Dean Ortiz, Department of Public Works and Highway – Region XI spokesperson, said in a statement sent to MindaNews that as far as the agency is concerned, “the approaches of the Matina Aplaya bridge are within the prescribed standards set by the department.”
“We urge motorists to strictly follow the speed limit set by the [city government] through the CTTMO [City Transport and Traffic Management Office] in the said road,” Ortiz added. (Ian Carl Espinosa / MindaNews)
