PDEA seizes P9.5M worth of shabu in Iligan
ILIGAN CITY (MindaNews / 22 Jan) – Operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) seized P9.5-million worth of suspected shabu (methamphetamine) during a buy-bust operation near the Adventist Medical Center along Tibanga Highway here noon on Wednesday, causing panic among residents nearby and passing motorists as gunshots rang out.
In a statement on its Facebook page, the PDEA Regional Office IX reported that the operation led to the arrest of two suspects, one of them wounded in the gunfight, who were aboard a white Toyota Fortuner.
But radio reports from DXIC and Brigada News said a third suspect, the driver, was able to escape, leaving behind the getaway vehicle at Purok 8 in Barangay Upper Hinaplanon, about three kilometers away from their encounter with authorities in the highway of Barangay San Miguel.
Arrested were Raisah Radiamoda Amer, a 59-year-old unemployed female and resident of Purok Adelfa West, Barangay Mahayahay in Iligan, and a certain “Bappa,” who was wounded during the operation.
PDEA-IX said that the 1,400 grams of suspected shabu were contained in one vacuum-sealed transparent plastic pack and four knot-tied plastic packs.
Other items seized during the operation – which was led by PDEA-IX operatives in coordination with their counterparts in the provinces of Lanao del Norte and Misamis Occidental – included a black shoulder bag, an opened green tea foil pack of the Chinese tea brand Guan Yin Wang, a black J&T plastic pouch, a brown paper bag, the Toyota Fortuner with key, and marked buy-bust money.
PDEA said the suspects will face charges for violating Section 5, Article II of Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (MindaNews)
