Rufus calls for probe of Kagay-anon OFW’s death in Kuwait
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (MindaNews / 8 Jan) – Rep. Rufus Rodriguez (2nd Dist., Cagayan de Oro) has filed a resolution on Monday calling for a House investigation on the death of a Kagay-anon domestic worker who was killed in Kuwait last month.
Rodriguez said he was outraged by the way Dafnie Nacalaban, 35, of Barangay Dansolihon here, met her death in Kuwait.
He said that according to a report from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Nacalaban was discovered buried in a garden in a residential area in Saad Al-abdullah in Jahra, Kuwait last month.
“There are suspicious circumstances surrounding her death,” Rodriguez said as he called on government agencies to investigate her death.
He said this is not the first time Filipino domestic workers were murdered in Kuwait, adding that Nacalaban’s employer reported her missing since October last year.
The congressman filed on Monday his Resolution No. 2151 calling for an investigation by the House of Representatives.
Rodriguez also asked the House to direct the Department of Migrant Workers, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration and the DFA to assist in the investigation.
The DFA reported that the suspects have surrendered to the police in Kuwait but there are no details yet on the case.
The Cagayan de Oro-based Mindanao Gold Star Daily said the relatives of Nacalaban in the hinterland Barangay of Dansolihon and in Molave town in Zamboanga del Sur are at a loss on her untimely death.
Her sister, Roxan Enloran, said that Dafnie dreamed of a brighter future for her family and had planned to return home to Mindanao last December to start building her dream house in Molave.
Enloran said Nacalaban left a husband and child in Molave. (Froilan Gallardo / MindaNews)
