Davao’s Bucana Bridge completed, to open Dec. 15

DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 4 December) — The Bucana Bridge here, which is part of the Davao City Coastal Road, will be opened to traffic on December 15, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said during his inspection of the bridge Thursday morning.

The President said the bridge will significantly help decrease travel time for those passing through the 1.4-kilometer structure crossing the Davao River.

The bridge is part of the 17.33-kilometer long Davao City Coastal Bypass Road project, which stretches from Bago Aplaya to Jerome St. in Agdao.

In the President’s inspection of the bridge, he was accompanied by Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon, Secretary Leo Magno of the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA), Special Assistant to the President Antonio Lagdameo Jr., and his brother, Davao del Norte Rep. Jose Manuel Lagdameo.

Marcos praised the quality of the bridge and its swift construction, thanking the Chinese contractor with its modern technology.

The ₱3.126-billion bridge, partly funded by China’s Official Development Assistance (ODA), was built by the China Road and Bridge Corporation.

The Bucana Bridge connects Davao City’s eastern and western areas. But when it opens on Dec. 15, the road can only go as far as Roxas Ave.

The President said the entire Davao City Coastal Bypass Road will be completed in December 2027.

He assured Dabawenyos of faster traffic movement, which he said is a welcome relief with the upcoming holiday season. (Daniel Jamito / MindaNews)
