Dinagat teen wins gold at science Olympiad

A Grade 13 student from the island province of Dinagat bagged the gold medal at the Southeast Asia International Science Olympiad held in Osaka, Japan last December 19.

Dinagat Governor Nilo Demerey Jr. said a prize money awaits Glydel Morados of Don Ruben Edera Ecleo Sr. Memorial National High School in San Jose town and her coach, John Kenneth Villareal, when they return to Dinagat Island.

“You have proven that the youth of Dinagat Islands are capable of competing with the rest of the world,” Demerey said in a statement.

The governor said this is not the first time that Morados won in an international competition.

Last August, Morados also won a silver award at the Southeast Asia  round of the International Science Olympiad Competition.

Campaign against loose firearms gets boost in Sultan Kudarat

Gun owners in Sultan Kudarat province is giving the military campaign against loose firearms a boost after many gun owners voluntarily surrendered their unlicensed firearms last Monday, December 22.

Lieutenant Colonel Tristan Rey P. Vallescas, commander of the Army’s  7th Infantry Battalion, said the gunowners who were mostly farmers brought their firearms to their headquarters in Barangay Kapaya in Bagumbayan town, Sultan Kudarat province.

Vellescas said the surrendered firearms included 37 rifles, various calibers of revolvers and pistols, and ten fragmentation grenades.
