Sea travel suspended in NorMin, Caraga as TD Wilma approaches

CAGAYAN DE ORO (MindaNews / 5 December) — The Philippine Coast Guard has ordered the suspension of sea travel for all types of vessels in Camiguin, Dinagat Islands, Bucas Grande and Siargao island after storm signal no. 1 was hoisted in these areas Friday morning.
Authorities in Cagayan de Oro City and Caraga region also ordered the suspension of classes as their respective disaster relief teams went on heightened alert for flash floods and landslides.
The state weather bureau Pagasa said that as of 10:30 am Friday, tropical depression “Wilma” was monitored at 235 kilometers east of Borongan City, eastern Samar, packing sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour near its center and moving in a southwest direction.
The Coast Guard suspended sea travel between Balingoan in Misamis Oriental and Benoni in Camiguin, Surigao City to Dinagat and Siargao islands and ordered ship owners to secure their boats in ports.
In Cagayan de Oro, Mayor Rolando Uy ordered the suspension of face-to-face classes in public and private schools in the city.
The Surigao del Norte Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, in a public advisory ordered all of their local government units to imposed localized or granular class suspensions.
Dinagat Island Governor Nilo Demerey Jr. ordered the activation of the disaster relief teams and raised the alert level to blue. (Froilan Gallardo/MindaNews)
