Town councilor stabbed dead in Surigao del Sur
MARIHATAG, Surigao del Sur (MindaNews / 6 December) – A municipal councilor and radio anchorman was fatally stabbed Saturday morning in Purok Pagbahan 1, Poblacion, Marihatag, just 300 meters from the local police station.
The victim, Gerry Sales Campos, 53, a Sangguniang Bayan member and resident of Purok 2, Sta. Cruz, Marihatag, Surigao del sur was attacked around 7:15 a.m. Saturday.
According to police investigation, Campos had just alighted from his pickup truck and was walking toward the ARC Gas Station when the suspect, identified as Sandy Constantin Rivas, 42, and a resident of the same barangay, stabbed him multiple times in the abdomen.
Campos was rushed to Marihatag District Hospital by the Marihatag Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office rescue team but was pronounced dead on arrival at 7:39 a.m. by Dr. Gazelle Zillah P. Serra.
Police recovered several items from the crime scene, including a long sharp-bladed knife, bloodstains, the victim’s slippers, and two slippers believed to belong to the suspect.
Rivas fled the scene but was later caught in a police pursuit operation and is now held at the Marihatag Police Station pending proper disposition while authorities continue to investigate the motive behind the attack. (Queenie Casio/MindaNews)
