Vilma Santos, Angel Locsin, Marian Rivera and all amazing women who donned the Darna costume!

Everyone in the country knows who Darna is, her story, her journey, and her roots. People may have told her story differently but they all are as iconic as the character herself.

Darna was first introduced in Komiks, people loved her since then and as her popularity grows, people ventured into the said iconic character and from being just on print in the 1950s, they released the first live-action portrayal of Darna which was played by Rosa Del Rosario in 1951.

Gina Pareño or as we fondly call her ‘lolagets’, also had the chance to fly high as Darna back in 1969 followed by the star for all seasons Ms. Vilma Santos who played the role of Darna not once but four times! She’s also the first Darna who said ‘Ding! Ang Bato’ which is still one of the most popular lines in the show even until today.

Other actresses who donned the iconic role is Ms. Lorna Tolentino in 1977’s Darna! The TV Series and Ms. Regine Velasquez in 2003 as a cameo role in another Komik based superhero movie, Captain Barbell.

In the 2000s, two actresses who breathe life to the iconic superheroine that are never to be forgotten are Angel Locsin in 2005 and Marian Rivera in 2009.

After the success of her TV show Mulawin alongside Richard Guitierrez, Angel Locsin bagged an iconic character that she’s made so phenomenal that even after more than 15 years of playing the role, people still see her as Darna. She owned the character and has become the real-life Darna we all need!

ABS-CBN is now in the midst of introducing a new Darna and we all can’t wait to see how this one would go!
