Fruits for ‘Good Luck’

Round fruits, like watermelon, have started to flood sidewalks and fruit stands outside the Palao market in Iligan City a few days before the New Year. Many Filipinos believe that serving 12 or 13 round fruits on New Year’s Eve at the dining table will bring good luck in the coming year, a tradition copied from the Chinese.
