CDO: no classes, work in local gov’t offices during INC rally on Monday
CAGAYAN DE ORO (MindaNews / 12 January) — The local government on Sunday announced the suspension of classes in all public and secondary schools in the city on Monday and also suspended work in all local government offices during the “National Rally for Peace” of the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC).
The local government also ordered temporary road closures and alternative routing schemes to avoid a traffic buildup along Amphitheater and Divisoria where the INC will gather its members.
Officials here estimate some 30,000 INC members will gather at the Amphitheater and the entire stretch of Divisoria for the rally allegedly intended to support the call of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. not to impeach Mindanawon Vice President Sara Duterte of Davao City.
Ian Fuentes, Cagayan de Oro public information officer said as part of the security preparations, mobile phone services will be suspended along the Amphitheater up to Xavier University from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

INC supervising District Minister Alnorfo Jurada said their members from five districts in Camiguin, Bukidnon, Lanao del Norte and Misamis Oriental are expected to arrive Sunday.
Jurada said INC members in Misamis Occidental and neighboring areas will participate in the rally in Pagadian City in Zamboanga del Sur.
Fuentes said vehicles carrying INC members are designated to park along the Rio de Oro boulevard.
He said they have asked INC leaders not to allow their members to block the sidewalks along R.N. Abejuela and Tirso Neri Streets where business establishments will open.
In case of an emergency, Fuentes said all roads closed for the INC event will be immediately opened for emergency responders, police and the military.
In its traffic advisory, the city government ordered a temporary road closure – from 8 p.m. on January 12 to 6 p.m. of January 13, along Burgos Street bounded by Gomez and Toribio Chaves Streets; Capistrano Street bounded by Gomez and Toribio Chaves Streets; Rizal Street from Cruz Taal Street to Toribio Chaves Street; Tiano Brothers Street from Toribio Chaves Street to Cruz Taal Street; RN Abejuela Street from Burgos Street to Velez Street and shall be extended as necessary from Velez Street to Corrales Avenue; and along Tirso Neri Street from Velez Street to Burgos Street and shall be extended as necessary from Velez Street to Corrales Avenue.
